Contact-for families of disabled children is backing a campaign to link access to appointeeship. Perhaps you aren鈥檛 at this stage yet. So, briefly:
When your child reaches the age of 16 the DWP, if they are in receipt of DLA Child will contact you/your young person to establish if they need an appointee. Here is a link, explaining the process and which can be found on the Preparation for Adulthood resources on the Gov.uk website.

The article which I will link below refers to a child trust fund, opened in a young person鈥檚 name. These are long term savings funds which were opened by the government for children born between 1 September 2002 and 2 January 2011. However, I expect that it could also apply to other savings in the name of a young person who relies on others to manage their benefits/savings. If your young person has one or has other savings in their own name it may be worth approaching the provider to see if they have a process for releasing funds to an appointee.

A New Halloween Maze has Opened at Wynyard Hall Gardens for October Half Term

This experience lasts around an hour and is perfect for families with children aged 3-10 years (all ages welcome). It鈥檚 拢14 per child and includes maze entry, activities, a Halloween tote bag, personalised certificate and a couple of surprise treats. Adults are 拢6.

You’re greeted by a wizard and asked if you’re brave enough to enter the maze, find and solve the riddles, complete tasks and help save Halloween.

The maze is not scary and nobody will jump out at you – it’s wholesome Halloween fun with friendly spooky vibes.

As you make your way around the maze, you will stumble upon three different rooms, each with their very own real (friendly) witch inside with activities to complete before you continue your quest.

Think hook a skull, potion making, pin the bat, a spell ingredient treasure hunt, riddle solving – the games and tasks are fun and varied.

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The activities were well thought out, we loved how the witches made sure everyone was involved in a way they felt comfortable and were really impressed with the quality of the experience. The interaction was fantastic and kept everyone (including us grown ups) engaged.

Your ticket includes entry to Wynyard Hall Gardens if you fancy a wander afterwards and we recommend hot chocolate and cake in the cafe too.

SEN sessions are available and the experience is accessible.

I recommend coming along dressed up in your best Halloween outfit as you鈥檒l want to take plenty photos.

This week the committee has agreed a 拢10 per student spend on a class/department activity or experience in the lead up to Christmas. We look forward to sharing with you how it is spent. 3 classes have already requested a trip to Storytime with Santa; this is a learning disability appropriate visit.

We received a very generous donation of 拢1700; from the family of one of our former colleagues who passed away recently. The committee will discuss and decide how best to use these funds in line with the families request.

As a group, we want to do more to make the school experience for our students better, supporting non curriculum events. We can only achieve that with your support.
